One To World has secured tickets to the final dress rehearsal of Semiramide, conducted by Maurizio Benini. Gioachino Rossini's masterpiece of dazzling vocal fireworks will be making a rare Met appearance—its first in nearly 25 years!
The performance is a melodrama with an emphasis on murder, mistaken identity, incest, divine intervention, and a corpse rising from the grave. Musicologist Rodolfo Celletti sums up the importance of Semiramide by stating: "it was the last opera of the great Baroque tradition: the most beautiful, the most imaginative, possibly the most complete; but also, irremediably, the last."
